The Glorious Gutter Life: 005 - Preorders, or The Life and Death of Your Favorite Comic

The Glorious Gutter Life

005 - Preorders, and the Life and Death of Your Favorite Comic

Last week on The Glorious Gutter Life: 004 - From Pitch to Page

You have a finished book.

Let that sink in for a second.

You finished a book. And whether it’s an issue or a whole OGN, it’s a finished thing for you to be proud of. Take a moment and relish in it.

Because now we’re up to the hard part:

(Yes, another THE hard part, because each one is the hardest bit while you’re in it.)

Getting people to order your book.

I don’t think we as creators can ever stress strongly enough just how important a reader preordering a title is to the survival of that book.

The survival of your book.

And, as of this week, my book, too.

For the past few months, we’ve been working hard at bringing what we feel is the missing piece in the ever-changing, ever-growing comic book community.
Your new collection managerNo more giant messy spreadsheets! Easy to share and fun to browse through with tons of data and analytics. We’ll even track of how much your collection is actually worth.
"What’s in your pull list?"Not only have we built a better pull list manager that’s easy to keep up to date and share, but we’re partnering with local comic book shops to make your longbox pull lists manage your LCS (local comic shop) subscriptions and even let you pay online so you can just walk in and pick up your books if you’re in a rush.
Pre-orders made less awkwardPre-order and even pay for comics on your time, not your shop’s store hours.
"Have you read … yet?"Your Activity feed will keep you up to date on what your friends are picking up, reading, enjoying, and talking about. We’ve also built great community tools to take your discussion to the entire community.
"What do you recommend?"We’ve built some awesome tools to create lists. Not just recommendation lists, but any kind of list you can think of. Getting Started lists, Deep Cuts, Best Ofs… literally anything.
And more! (We’re aware that this is cliche, but this list could go on for a while if we don’t cut it short).
We’ve been focusing on rebuilding everything from the ground up to make it work better and give you more of everything. Our goal is to connect the comic book community in a way that simply works better for everyone, whether you’re a hardcore collector or you just picked up your first comic yesterday.
It’s called longbox and we’re really excited to share it with you soon.
Over the next week, stay tuned to this blog to get a closer look at what we’ve been working on.
